About Our Materials
Cove & bead cedar strips are the building blocks of fair-hulled boat construction. We mill strips from several different species in several different sizes.
We can supply full length western red cedar strips!
Sometimes we have Shorts or leftover strips from a particular run that are less costly. We would be glad to quote you a price on these.
We mill the finest vertical grain, cove and bead strips available. Generally, a 16' tandem canoe or single 17' kayak uses about 1200 LF of 1/4" x 3/4" material. Some kayaks designs require a larger percentage of 1/4" x 1/2" strips because of tight radii in the hull configurations (Guillemot Expedition Single, for example).

Alaskan Yellow Cedar drying at the shop. We bring cedar in green and dry it here to minimize brittleness.
Western Red Cedar, future cove and bead strips.
